Arrhythmia & Heart Disease Treatment

Treatment for Heart Arrhythmia Symptoms

The meaning of “arrhythmia” is fairly simple: if you have it, you have an irregular heartbeat. When your heart beats, it receives signals from the brain to do so. If those signals fail to coordinate properly or have inappropriate timing, your heart may beat at an irregular rhythm.

There are two types of arrhythmia, categorized by beats per minute (BPM):

  • Tachycardia, meaning your heart beats faster than normal. With tachycardia, your resting heart rate will be higher than 100 BPM.
  • Bradycardia, meaning your heart beats slower than normal. With bradycardia, your resting heart rate will be lower than 60 BPM.

Many patients who have arrhythmias experience no irregular heartbeat symptoms, and your primary care physicians may notice an abnormality during routine care or during treatment for another condition. When signs of arrhythmia do present, they may include:

  • A noticeably slow or fast heartbeat
  • Pain in the chest
  • A fluttering feeling in the chest
  • Excessive sweating
  • Feeling faint or fainting
  • Dizziness
  • Anxiety
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue

If you’re in need of treatment and monitoring for your arrhythmia, the team at Shadyside Cardiovascular, PLLC can help. Our Clinical Cardiology services include arrhythmia management, which will ensure that your arrhythmia never interferes with your ability to live a healthy life.
